Talkeetna - Quaint & Most Enjoyable

Stan . . .

When we left the Anchorage area headed north toward Denali National Park we stopped for 2 nights in the little village of Talkeetna (15 miles off the Parks Highway).  We enjoyed this quaint village and while we were there we took a float trip down the Chulitna River and were fortunate enough to spot various wildlife along the river.

Below is a picture of Connie along with Robert & Leslie (our travel companions) outside the general store on main street (the only street).

The next 2 pictures are of several of the many decorated moose sculptures found scattered along the main street.

Early in our float trip we spotted something further down the river swimming across the river.  As it reached the shore and we were able to come closer we were able to see this black bear cub.

A little further along we spotted this juvenile golden eagle sitting along side the river bank.

About half way through our 18 mile float we found this beaver lodge along side the shoreline (didn't see any beavers, but the lodge was quite large).
At about mile 15 we found this bald eagle perched majestically on a driftwood stump close to the shoreline.
Almost at the end of our float we were able to photograph another bald eagle as it flew overhead.

Our float trip was a memorable experience and the periodic wildlife sightings made for an enjoyable day.  Our time spent at Talkeetna was a pleasant diversion on our way toward Denali National Park.
